Creative Mornings: Kate Jones on Parallel
Kate Jones is a writer, performance artist, and two-time Guinness World Record breaker from New Jersey (exit 91), with a Vietnamese mom and gay dad. Kate was a member of the Drama-Desk nominated NY Neo-Futurists, a founding member of London’s Degenerate Fox Theatre Company, and is the voice of Michelle Nguyen on the internationally acclaimed podcast “Welcome to Night Vale.” Her writing has been published in McSweeney’s and as part of an essay compilation. She has performed in 35 US states and 18 countries.
Kate’s talk will focus on Parallels – she grew up between Vietnamese and American cultures, with a straight mother and a gay father, and studied both engineering and theater.
Rather than seeing these as contradictions, she’s found that each perspective informs the other, creating a more well-rounded approach to creative storytelling and problem solving. She will also talk about how this mindset led her to turn a broken ankle into a Guinness World Record.
